THE DAY OF INDEPENDENCE by James R. Therrell Good Morning!! I am the Day of Independence. I have been around the Earth for many, many years. Occasionally, I have manifested myself throughout the years of History in such a way as to cause the inhabitants of Earth to recognize My Presence, to cause a stirring in their hearts and cause them to remember what I have done for them. I have even caused them to remember the blood that was shed for them in the beginning years of about 1776 A.D., both before and after. But, I was around before then. I was there at first light, at the very crack of Day, to give myself in support of those who first walked upon Earth and tasted of its fruit. Even before Nations were formed, I was there with the Light, the Light that came from above. Often I have been present when families were separated from friends, homes, lands and loved ones. I was there when a small family gathered themselves together and was lifted in an Ark above a great Flood that covered the corruption of the land. I saw them that day when their feet were set upon the higher ground. I am the Day of Independence! When a family was hungry amidst a famine, they came to a foreign land where they were fed, clothed, housed and protected, even in the presence of their enemies. I was there to see the family restored, to grow and to multiply into a great Nation. I heard the cry of their hearts. I saw their tears and afflictions. I knew their desire for Freedom and to be lifted from their heavy burdens of oppression. I am the Day they searched for! I stood witness to the Light of the Day wherein a Document of Independence was issued on a high mountain as my gift to a family who had gathered below. I was there when the Document was written again, the Second Time, on the very same high mountain. I was there to open the eyes that had not seen and the ear that had not heard when a people were brought to A Place of Freedom just across the River in a promised land. I allowed one to see from a lofty hill top the rewards of his perseverance in My Day that he was left behind.I waited hundreds of years while some men, Prophets, spoke of me in some future tense and mentioned Me as, in that Day. Kings and kingdoms rose and fell. Like rising stars they appeared and fell, burned to a mere crisp with their glory extinguished. In a few years, they, these shooting star kingdoms, became like pebbles tossed into the air by a child to fall again to earth with neither great sound or lasting impact. I waited. It was a very long, excruciatingly painful time that I witnessed the family come to its end. In its descent into death, hell and the grave, I grew most weary in waiting, waiting for the time that I may bring My Dawn again. I was there, but no one knew. Thick Darkness was all around. I could only wait as Captivity had conquered! Then out in a field, like it was Spring Time, shepherds saw Me as Glory shown round about them. Wise men saw a star appear to them of great brightness, an emblem of another Kingdom coming. Suddenly the great Host of Heaven surrounded them as if to repudiate any acceptance of Captivity. This Army of the coming King gave praises of Heaven to the One who would be much more than a conqueror. A Declaration has been made! Peace! Goodwill! I am the Day of Independence and witness to this Declaration of Angels, Ambassadors of the High King of Kings. Yes, it was Spring Time when Kings go out to war. You think not because you have been told not! Yet, in that Day, the warfare commenced when a new Babe came to town, the little Child that would lead them as their unconquerable King. A Roman King, with his army, failed in his attempt to stop the enactment of the Declaration in the Day I was there. Thirty years later I was present when I heard this same Child, now the Man, the same One that was in the beginning, when he stood in the congregation and made restatement of His cause. Undeniably, he proclaimed the words of my Day in the Declaration of Deliverance for the captives and Freedom for the oppressed. We were both in the Church that Day and surrounded by many of the religious elite. I wondered about the synagogue, especially about its origin, because Jesus, the Man, never referred to it as his synagogue. It was always their synagogue or the synagogue. Nor did Jesus refer to it as his house of prayer. Can you understand my position as I stood to bring them the Day of Independence? Within three years this Day Star from on high, Jesus, had found much contention around the synagogues. He had a strange philosophy wherein he recognized a man, woman or child to have at least as much importance as an oxen or an ass on the Sabbath. He brought such unparalleled practices into the gathering on the Sabbath such as healing, restoration and deliverance (Independence) to which the congregation raised objection. They had been more accustomed to displaying piety, reading the law and the prophets and observing the traditional formalities. I was glad that a little light of the Day had come in. So, Jesus had to do a little out door preaching on the Mount or on the sea shore or in a boat. You may remember that he said that he would be proclaiming the Gospel to the poor. There must have been a lot of poor multitudes in the country then. But, they wanted to know about the Day. It is so fascinating to follow a Man who is constantly talking about the Day of Independence. They did, too! I was there. You know He had a plain sermon and He had a mountain sermon. For some reason he kept healing folks where ever He went. In one instance he pardoned (Freedom) a sinful woman. Another time he freed (Freedom) a demoniac. He had a few para bells for those who wanted to know more of the way of Freedom. Maybe he had thoughts para del bella de Lebertad! He wanted to make the message of the Day of Independence very clear. The Great Day was not far away now. One of the parabells concerned five people. There was the innkeeper who had set up shop on this main highway to the destination resort town of Jericho where the tourists enjoyed the beautiful trees and gardens while they bathed in its spring fed pools. They took a Holiday. There was this merchant who had come down from the Samaritan mountain to be in Jericho for a while. Then there was the priest who no one knows where he may be going and finally there was the Levite, of those who were chosen to take care of the affairs of the Temple. But, let us not forget the Holiday Traveler who could come into their lives as he was on his way from Jerusalem to Jericho. But why am I interested in this parable? It's about Independence! It is about mercy and it is about another Day. The priest by his religious convictions could not touch or bring the traveler to the temple. It was forbidden if he were to serve that day in the temple. The Levite was indoctrinated that he was only to give service to the Temple worship. The Samaritan was a citizen of the other tribes of Israel begun in the times of Jeroboam (i.e. after Solomon). They worshipped on another mountain and had at one time degenerated to the worship of other gods and spiritual deities, demon worship and finally full worship of Baal. In Samaria, they had even worshipped Baalzebub. The sins of the fathers in Samaria and the fathers in Jerusalem were the same, identically the same! But one who had not been tied into religious knots had the Freedom to pour in the oil and the wine, then lift the traveler to be carried on his own animal, it may have been a Jaguar, to the holiday inn, a place of protection and rest for travelers. Notice that the Samaritan had a measure of Freedom. And, look what Freedom does to help the wounded! I liked this para bell. It rings true. But that is not the end of the story. I notice that the Samaritan spent the rest of the day and night at the inn and took care of the traveler. The next day I heard the Samaritan say to the innkeeper, "Take care of Him." "Here is the price of his lodging, food and care. Here is the earnest, two pieces of sliver, of my promise. Take care of him and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you." Allow the Day of Independence to show you more of the day that is yet to come. The traveler could be anyone of you going from one place to another, maybe from Hell to Heaven. Perhaps a spiritual journey has been initiated and there is repentance or he is turned around from the Old direction to follow in the New direction. The thief came to steal, to kill and to destroy on the same road. We see that the traveler fell among the thieves. Did he fall without a fight? Or, rather was he overcome by the gang of thieves? Herein is revealed a Divine act of Mercy and Grace exceeding grace from the Majesty on High. Even though others were going and coming on the busy Highway, only the One came to attend to the wounded and stripped traveler. This One poured in the oil of healing and of sanctification. This One poured in the Wine to strengthen and rid the traveler of his pain. With some, the story would have ended here. They would have given no more. But with this Man the story has only begun. The traveler's feet never touched the ground from the time he was lifted up and until he was brought into the inn. He was lifted upon and carried by the same animal that carried the Man, succinctly, like the Spirit carried him. He took care of him through the night, giving comfort by His presence and His Word. The next day he calls the Host of this Great House, the gathering place (kinda like a church), and instructs him to take care of the traveler. He pays a price, as only he could pay, for the care of the traveler. Then before departing, he tells them that when He returns, if anything is owing, he will repay whatever is due in full. I could see my Day of Independence coming! How far may I take you as the Day of Independence? Would you go with me and stand in the Light of the Glory of God as it shines down on the Cross of Calvary? Would you then wait a few days to know that this same Man, Jesus, had conquered death, hell and the grave for you? Then would you be one among the many that truly know that he has risen from the dead and has gone to prepare a place for many to be with Him? The Day is coming when He will come again with multitudes of His saints and His angels. It is the Day of greatest brightness as He comes in Glory for those He has left at the Inn. The host of the Inn will be repaid in full. The thieves will have been defeated. The passers by will have reached their destination (Hell)This is the Day of Independence !Have you found your place among the twinkling Stars, surrounded in a field of Royal Blue? Have you found the Crimson stained stripes of healing or a man’s six broad White stripes of purity? All of these speak of The Day of Independencethat He has prepared for me and for you!
